Core Components
§ Conductor:
The inner core (solid or stranded) that carries the electric current. Copper is the 2026 standard for high conductivity, while aluminum is used for weight-sensitive or cost-effective large-scale distribution.
§ Insulation:
The non-conductive material (such as PVC, XLPE, or LSZH) surrounding the conductor to prevent leakage and short circuits.
§ Sheath/Jacket:
The outermost protective layer that guards the internal components against moisture, chemicals, and mechanical damage.
§ Armouring (Optional):
A layer of steel wire or tape used in industrial cables to provide enhanced mechanical protection for underground or exposed installations.
Standard Tests
§ TTA (Totally Type Tested Assembly) IEC 61439-1&2
